A LOOK BEHIND THE LENS

Good data. Clear boundaries.

domainspector. connects the dots using free, public sources. No accounts, API keys, or sign-up.

01

DNS, direct from public resolvers

We query 21 record types at the hostname you enter, plus common mail and security labels. Results come from Cloudflare, with Google as a fallback. Each search makes new requests; public resolvers may cache answers for their DNS lifetime (TTL). Reverse hostnames come from each IP address’s public PTR records, when available. Network owners and ASNs come from RIPEstat’s public routing and registration data. A CDN or proxy address identifies that network, rather than the website’s origin server.

02

Registration, from the source

Registrar and dates come from the domain registry’s RDAP service, discovered through IANA. If that lookup fails or is incomplete, we try the registrar’s own RDAP service. A public Whois.com lookup may help identify the registrar, but displayed details are verified directly with the registrar. For .hr, .eu, .de, and .rs, we also support their public WHOIS services. Some registries do not publish expiration dates. Dates and times use your browser’s local timezone. Calendar-only registry dates keep their published date.

03

A useful view, with honest limits

Public DNS cannot list an entire zone. Unknown subdomains, DKIM selectors, and custom service labels are not discoverable. DNS providers are inferred from nameservers; custom and shared nameservers may not identify the management console. For custom DNS, we also check for public cPanel and WHM login pages on the nameservers and their verified server hostnames.

Your history stays in this browser

Recent domain names are saved in local storage, without paths or query strings. Clear them whenever you like. Searches are sent to public DNS resolvers and the relevant domain registry. We use no analytics or tracking cookies.
